Contestants invited for Shell Startup Showdown

Shell Lubricants and Automotive Ventures have issued a call for early-stage startups with automotive technology to enter the Shell Startup Showdown to compete for grants. Entrants should be able to demonstrate innovativeness in areas like net-zero emissions, customer experience, new energies and mobility.

Automotive Ventures is a consulting and venture capitalist firm focused on automotive technology, while Shell is one of the world’s leading lubricant suppliers. From the applicants, five finalists will be selected to meet with mentors from both companies periodically over a six-week period to enhance their value proposition and story and refine their presentation ready for the next stage.

This will then culminate in Demo Day on March 29, 2022, where the finalists will make their final pitches to executives from Shell Lubricants. Based on their pitches, a winner will be selected to receive a grant of $35,000. A runner up will also receive a grant of $15,000.

A Shell Lubricants Americas Senior Vice President, Steve Reindl, said about the competition:

“We are committed to entrepreneurs who know that sustainable energy and efficient mobility can, and should, successfully coexist with the financial and physical health of our business and customers. Shell Startup Showdown is just one example of the many ways we are improving our future.”

While the competition seems oriented towards US startups, Shell also runs Shell StartUp Engine UK, which is a programme for startups in the UK that are well placed to speed up the move to an equitable energy transition.
