Texaco becomes official partner for upcoming triathlon series

Fuel retailer and lubricant maker Texaco has partnered with the International Triathlon Union (ITU) to deliver TriathlonLIVE, the body’s over-the-top (OTT) streaming service, for the 2020 World Triathlon Series.

Texaco already enjoys a relationship with the ITU having cooperated on the ITU’s OTT platform last year through its Havoline brand for passenger car engine oil and automotive coolants. This enabled the channel to also show events outside the ITU, including Norseman and Super League Triathlon events, taking the total to 96 events.

This year looks to be another big one for the sport. The streaming platform will again cover all the events in the World Triathlon Series, as well as the decider at the Edmonton Grand Final World Championship. In addition, like last year, viewers will also be able to follow a range of non-ITU triathlon events, such as Challenge Roth and some Continental Cups.

Marisol Casado, who is an IOC member in addition to being president of the ITU, expressed the body’s excitement at working with an industry name with worldwide recognition and the implications this may have for further widening the audience for TriathlonLIVE. She added:

“Last season we opened new doors in terms of our capacity to deliver live coverage not just from the World Series but from World Cups and beyond. This year our ambitions are to go beyond once again in terms of the quality and quantity of our content.”

At the time of writing, the World Triathlon Series is still scheduled to kick off on April 18 in Bermuda, although some parts, including the Leeds leg in June, are having to be rescheduled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
