For more than 30 years, Petro-Canada Lubricants has worked to research, develop and produce advanced lubrication, greases and specialty fluids of world-class quality.
Its extensive product range includes natural gas and heavy-duty oils, automatic transmission fluid and automotive fluid, industrial oils for hydraulic systems and gears, compressor oils, greases and fluids, as well as food grade lubrication solutions designed with the highest safety standards in mind. Additionally, Petro-Canada Lubricants is the world’s largest manufacturer of pharmaceutical white oils, with distribution of its product line reaching 80 different countries to serve a full range of industries.
Based in Mississauga, Ontario in Canada, Petro-Canada Lubricants’ main oil refinery is counted among the largest facilities of its kind across the globe, boasting a yearly capacity of over a billion litres. A forward-thinking operation, the oil producer maintains an ethos of creativity focused by purpose, “identifying tomorrow’s needs and answering them today”.
What are white oils?
White oils are mineral oils that are stable, exceptionally pure, meticulously refined, odourless, colourless, chemically inert and entirely non-toxic. These qualities make them ideal for multiple applications that value such attributes, including pharmaceutical firms, cosmetics manufacturers and companies conducting chemical processing. The name “white oil” is in fact a misnomer, as they are crystal clear and not white in any way, leading to them be described as “water white”.
White oils can be created from a range of different feedstocks, dependent on the processing approach employed. These initial materials involve conventional oil stocks for older processes, such as acid treatment and Vacuum Gas Oils for the more modern method involving two stage hydrotreating. Whichever process is used, both will create a colourless, odourless and tasteless oil. Every attribute that could potentially have a detrimental impact on its purpose – like sulphur, aromatics or other such impurities – have been removed, producing a pure product with thermal stability.
Improving oil performance through purity
Petro-Canada has built its success on engineering lubrication products that deliver beyond their specification in important areas. Using this approach, it is able to help clients and customers understand the potential advantages and economic rewards when equipment it is operating efficiently at maximum performance.
With its mantra “Better Base Oils. Better Performance”, Petro-Canada’s lubricants are able to not only perform more effectively, but also last far longer due to the base oil that forms their foundation, which is 99.9 percent pure. To produce this level of purity, the manufacturer uses an advanced processing method that works to remove any impurities in the oil that could potentially hinder performance – this is known as the Hydrotreating Purity Process.
A member of Sedex, a world leader in assisting companies to improve their environmental approach, Petro-Canada Lubricants works to create sustainable products that not only benefit enterprises, but the planet as well. By delivering efficient and high-performing oils featuring increased fuel efficiency, reduced energy consumption and an extended lifespan, companies that invest in Petro-Canada products will make savings, while the environment benefits from less harmful emissions.
