Engine and generator expert Cummins recently awarded a Valvoline heavy-duty engine oil approval for up to 100,000 mile drain intervals.

The certification for the product, called “Premium Blue One Solution Gen 2”, is specific to Cummins X15 engines (2021-2026) with a greater than seven miles per gallon average and an idle power take off (PTO) of under 40 per cent.

The recent announcement represents a 25,000-mile extension on the lubricant’s previous drain interval approval.

The second-generation oil was first engineered in 2020, founded largely on research from a collaboration between Cummins and Valvoline. It is currently approved for usage with multiple light, medium and heavy-duty engine applications.

A spokesperson for Valvoline stated that the lubricant maker had conducted over 60 million miles worth of real-world tests on the new premium oil product. It added that it is now the world’s first lubricant manufacturer to offer a heavy-duty engine oil that carries an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) approval for drain intervals of up to 100,000-miles.

Commenting on the recent milestone, general manager and vice president for Valvoline Heavy Duty in the Americas region, John Walters, said that the achievement means that equipment could spend more time working and less time being serviced. He noted that extended drain intervals of 100,000 miles could empower operators to minimise mechanical downtime and streamline their maintenance cycles to make cost and time savings while wasting less oil.

A leading international supplier of premium grade lubricants, Valvoline specialises in engine oils, coolant and grease products for a range of applications.
