Specialty chemicals provider Lubrizol has announced the introduction of the innovative PowderAdd 9781 and PowderAdd 9782 texturing agents for powder coatings.
Both products are free from polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), making them suitable options for manufacturers looking to create new finishes without using PTFE.
PTFE is chemically inert and non-toxic, but there are environmental concerns and potential harms under certain circumstances. Both additives help manufacturers avoid its use while still delivering superb matting performance and a fine, uniform texture.
According to Lubrizol, which also makes the Emkarate refrigeration compressor oil, they also help replicate the performance and aesthetic features of existing fine-textured matte coatings.
When formulating new powder-coating technologies, manufacturers can incorporate PowderAdd 9781 to develop powder coatings that balance visual appeal with improved scratch resistance. PowderAdd 9781 goes a step further by helping to maintain colour and improving resistance against both abrasion and scratches. This makes it especially useful for demanding settings where it remains vital to preserve durability and appearance.
The regional marketing manager for performance coatings at Lubrizol, Anja Kloth, said:
“Powder coating formulators are looking for innovative ways to achieve attractive matte finishes and fine textured surfaces while pursuing PTFE-free formulation strategies. PowderAdd 9781 and PowderAdd 9782 expand the options available to manufacturers by delivering excellent texturing and matting performance while offering differentiated surface property benefits.”
She added that with the new additives, designers of powder coatings will be better able to meet the requirements of specific applications while maximising both performance and appearance.
