According to a BP press release, Meg O’Neill, who took over as Chief Executive officer in April, has appointed two new Executive Vice Presidents (EVPs).
Both appointees have decades of experience within BP, which owns the iconic Castrol brand of lubricant and metalworking products. Sonya Adams will take over as EVP People & Culture. She has held leadership roles in various areas around the world during her 25 years at the company and most recently served as the CEO’s Chief of Staff.
Sam Skerry is to assume the role of EVP Supply, Trading & Shipping. Most of her almost 30-year career at BP has involved trading hydrocarbons and derivatives. She most recently worked as SVP Mergers & Acquisitions and Business Development.
O’Neill said:
“Sam and Sonya bring significant leadership experience to these roles. Sam is widely respected for her commercial and strategic insight, and for her ability to navigate complex, high profile commercial situations. As Chief of Staff, Sonya developed a deep understanding of the company and the levers that drive performance.”
She added that BP was transitioning to become a stronger, simpler and more valuable company. BP also announced that Deputy CEO Carol Howle had decided to retire after 26 years at the company. The EVP People, Culture & Communications, Kerry Dryburgh, has also personally decided to leave BP after a 16-year career. Both will leave later this quarter.
O’Neill thanked both of them for their exceptional contribution and commitment. She also noted her decision to not appoint a new Deputy CEO role as part of a streamlined leadership team.
