On its corporate blog, US-based oil major Chevron has highlighted how it seeks to be a good community partner by helping to conserve the environments within which it operates.
It takes the example of New Mexico, where the company has operated for over a century. Chevron, which also markets Texaco lubricant products in the UK, supports various local initiatives. Among these are the Pecos Watershed Conservation Initiative (PWCI), which seeks to conserve the natural habitats and resources in the region. Indeed, species like the Rio Grande cooter and the Pecos pupfish can only be found in the habitats of the Pecos River Watershed.
An advisor for government and public affairs, Beverly Allen, said:
“Supporting and caring for communities where we live and work means what matters to our neighbours matters to us. We’re working to preserve New Mexico’s natural resources for New Mexicans and for our own families to enjoy for years to come.”
While the company donates substantial funding to the initiative, many Chevron employees also volunteer for hands-on work. They share the desire to conserve the environment, not just for themselves but also for future generations.
David Archuleta lives in Carlsbad, New Mexico, where he works for Chevron as a maintenance supervisor. He enjoys outdoor activities like fly fishing on New Mexico’s Pecos River. It is only natural that he volunteers his time to preserve the local wildlife by doing hands-on work like clearing erosional deposits and waterways, removing weeds and planting suitable grasses. He said this shared commitment ultimately drove his decision to join Chevron.
