A study examining the international market for off-highway equipment lubricants recently highlighted leading companies in the sector.

Researchers estimate that between 2026 and 2035, the market will expand at a compound annual growth rate of six per cent to reach a value of more than $8 billion.

Today, off-highway equipment oils, greases and fluids form a crucial support market for heavy-duty machinery employed in multiple industries. These include mining, construction, agriculture, material handling and forestry, among others. As hardwearing lubricants, they protect axles, hydraulic systems, engines and transmissions that often operate under intense conditions involving dust, shock, extreme temperature swings and heavy loads.

As most of the equipment used in heavy-duty industries remains powered by conventional internal combustion engines (ICE), demand for lubricants that deliver high performance is structurally connected to fossil fuel usage.

The report noted that Shell supplies over five billion litres worth of lubricants annually to off-highway and industrial sectors. Among the largest lubricant suppliers in the world, it operates in more than 70 countries and provides agricultural oil, hydraulic oil, engine oil and gear oil to serve heavy use equipment in the Americas, Asia and Europe.

Castrol also has a substantial lubricant portfolio for off-road equipment. It supplies driveline lubricant, hydraulic fluids and heavy-duty engine oils while trading in over 65 countries. Its high-performance products support farm and construction equipment and feature ever-evolving formulations to refine efficiency and performance.

An independent manufacturer, Fuchs was also listed as a key industry player. With more than 35 production sites around the world, it makes over 10,000 different oil and grease products. Among its range are lubricants tailored for mining, agriculture and construction.
