France-based TotalEnergies has announced an extension to its partnership with the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF).

The energy major will in future sponsor 12 competitions and events, including the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025, TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup 2027, and TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2024, which involves nations like Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

CEO and Chairman of TotalEnergies, Patrick Pouyanné, said the company was proud to support African football. He expressed his excitement at the company’s pride and honour in extending its collaboration with the CAF for another four years, adding that he was enthusiastic about:

“…the rise of this popular sport, with its values of diversity, cohesion and unity, across Africa, a continent where the Company is a historic player. This extension allows the Company to keep celebrating African football alongside all its stakeholders, customers and employees, and to share the commitment and passion of millions of Africans.”

TotalEnergies, which makes the Total range of grease and coolant fluids, expressed its enthusiasm for promoting the African Schools Football Championship programme run by the CAF to encourage young girls and boys in Africa to play football.

The company says it has had a presence in Africa for 90 years and contributed to the energy mix there, and in addition to being a leading distributor of fuel and lubricant products, it sources about 19% of its hydrocarbons from the African continent. It says it also supplies about 50 million African people with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), enabling them to cook cleanly.
