A third episode of the Energy Tailgate podcast is now available, with the focus being on how innovations are helping to meet global energy needs.
Chevron’s podcast aims to give plain-speaking insights into the energy industry as host Tanner Foust interviews senior Chevron staffers on the back of a pickup truck.
As well as being a TV host, Foust is a stunt driver and champion racing driver. He also holds a degree from the University of Colorado Boulder in molecular, cellular and developmental biology.
In this episode, Foust interviews Ryder Booth, Chevron’s chief officer for engineering and technology. Chevron, which also makes the Texaco grease and lubricant range, is developing and applying new ways to meet the world’s energy needs, now and in the future. Within this context, Booth has overall responsibility for the development and introduction of innovations to further support energy production.
Booth talks about how technological advancements are making it feasible to access more hard-to-reach resources. The Anchor project in the Gulf of Mexico, for example, uses new technology to enable operating pressures as high as 20,000 pounds per square inch. This allows many of the deepest Gulf reservoirs, which were previously through unreachable, to be accessed.
On land, new chemical treatments developed by chemists and other scientists have enabled increased production rates thanks to gas and oil flowing more freely through rock. AI (artificial intelligence) has also been a game changer by allowing geologists to tap into huge amounts of data when making decisions.
