Malaysian-headquartered Petronas has reaffirmed its three-decades-long partnership with Shizuoka Gas Co., Ltd. through a new sale and purchase agreement (SPA) for liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Under the SPA, Petronas’ subsidiary Petronas LNG Ltd. (PLL) will provide Shizuoka Gas with 0.84 million metric tonnes (MMT) of LNG.

Supply will commence in 2032 and cover seven years.

In addition to producing oil and making lubricant products like turbine oil and agricultural oil, Petronas also has a global portfolio of upstream LNG assets. It will employ these to provide Shizuoka Gas with a reliable yet flexible supply to help it meet developing energy requirements amid evolving market dynamics.

Datuk Adif Zulkifli of Petronas and Mr. Yoshitake Matsumoto of Shizuoka Gas marked the signing of the deal in Kuala Lumpur with a ceremony. The event also marked the 30th anniversary of Petronas’ first LNG delivery to Shizuoka Gas. Datuk Adif said:

“This agreement marks more than a commercial milestone, it reflects 30 years of mutual trust, shared growth and a partnership that has continued to evolve alongside the changing energy landscape. We value the strong relationship we have built with Shizuoka Gas and look forward to deepening our collaboration.”

He added that Petronas is committed to leveraging its global portfolio to provide solutions that are both flexible and reliable. He said this would help progress a realistic energy transition while supporting energy security in the long term. The two companies also aim to collaborate on finding potential ways to decarbonise the value chain for LNG.
