France-based TotalEnergies is to bolster its presence in the UK energy market by acquiring some solar and storage projects.
La société énergétique intégrée a annoncé l’achat du pipeline de projets auprès d’une importante société d’énergies renouvelables Low Carbon. Il comprend deux projets de stockage par batterie d'une capacité de 85 MW et une capacité de production de 350 MW à travers huit projets solaires. Ces derniers pourraient être opérationnels en 2028, étant donné qu’ils sont déjà à un stade de développement avancé. Ils pourraient approvisionner l’équivalent de 100 000 foyers types au Royaume-Uni, avec une production annuelle prévue de 350 GWh.
TotalEnergies’ senior vice president for renewables, Olivier Jouny, said the company was happy with the deal with Low Carbon. He explained how the pipeline acquisition would increase TotalEnergies’ power generation footprint in the UK:
« L'acquisition de ces projets solaires et de batteries situés dans le sud de l'Angleterre complétera notre portefeuille électrique intégré au Royaume-Uni, qui comprend 1,1 GW bruts d'énergie éolienne offshore installée, 1,3 GW bruts de turbines à gaz à cycle combiné et plus de 600 MW de projets solaires en cours de développement.
TotalEnergies, which was formally called Total, is traditionally an oil and gas company and a maker of coolant and lubricant products. It remains one of the biggest hydrocarbon producers in the UK, with it producing 121,000 barrels of oil equivalent on average each day – including more than a quarter of gas production. In the UK, it is also pursuing an integrated energy strategy that uses flexible power generation in combination with renewable energy generation.
