A new episode of The Energy Tailgate podcast has been released by US-based energy giant Chevron.

The podcast series focuses on how Chevron is adapting to an evolving energy landscape. Set in the back of a pickup truck, the series offers informative but informal interviews with high-ranking Chevron officials. The series is hosted by Tanner Foust, who has a degree in molecular, cellular and developmental biology in addition to being a stunt and champion race driver.

In this episode, Foust talks to Jeff Gustavson, who heads up Chevron New Energies, about how the company is providing energy to data centres. Artificial intelligence (AI) offers new ways of working for people and industries, but the energy needs of data centres have risen dramatically as a result. Chevron, which also makes the Texaco lubricant and grease range, is well positioned to meet this need.

Chevron’s website says that Gustavson:

“…is focused on lower carbon solutions that have the potential to scale, including commercialisation opportunities in hydrogen, power, carbon capture, offsets and support of ongoing growth in biofuels. Gustavson also oversees Chevron’s enterprise AI efforts focused on value creation, operational excellence, cost efficiency and driving AI innovation across the company.”

He talks to Faust about how Chevron is using gas turbines to directly supply power to data centres. With the US Permian Basin producing abundant natural gas, West Texas is an ideal location for data centres. Gustavson also talks about other sources the company is working on, such as geothermal energy and hydrogen storage. The episode can be viewed on Chevron’s website.
