Morda’s Hope House children’s hospice and Shrewsbury’s Severn Hospice have both benefited from donations of £6,000 each thanks to last year’s Ruyton X1 Towns Charity Tractor Pull. The event was sponsored by a number of local companies, including Shrewsbury-based Morris Lubricants, a leading supplier of world-class lubricant products.
Gary Penton, a director at a local haulage company and a competitor in the British Tractor Pullers Association Championship, organises the annual event at the Marches Farm with the permission of its owners, the Hamlett family. The event last year attracted some 2,000 people throughout the weekend, but the Sunday was hit by heavy rain, meaning that one or two of the heftier vehicles could not participate. Nevertheless, the event raised £12,000, taking the total it has raised for local hospices, which are heavily dependent on charitable donations, over the past eight years to £80,000. An official presentation would usually take place for the donations, but this has been skipped this year given the ongoing COVID-19 situation.
Andrew Goddard, the executive chairman at Morris Lubricants, expressed the company’s pride in its long-term association with Ruyton X1 Towns Charity Tractor Pull, adding:
“Gary and his team have raised an amazing sum of money which makes a real difference to these two fabulous local charities who have never needed support more than now.”
This years’ event, which would have been held early autumn, has been cancelled. Penton is instead looking at another test event next spring, with Montford Bridge Airfield being a possible venue.
