The biggest independent supplier of lubricants, Fuchs Lubricants, has announced the introduction of its NYEMED 7312 damping grease for medical applications.

Fuchs says the grease was developed to meet the increasing demand for solutions with greater sustainability. It is free from PFAS, made from silicone and thickened with silica to achieve biocompatibility, better motion control and greater reliability.

According to the company’s website, NYEMED 7312 is:

“…fortified to control motion and reduce friction in medical applications. This non-PFAS based, biocompatible lubricant is manufactured in an ISO 13485:2016 certified facility. Our process controls, documentation and quality standards meet or exceed all requirements for the design, manufacture and distribution of synthetic lubricants for medical devices.”

According to Fuchs, the grease has been engineered to be flexible, with good resistance to moisture and a wide operational temperature range. This helps equipment to perform reliably even in demanding environmental conditions, such as warm, humid conditions. Its unique formulation also inhibits stiction, the “stick” element of the phenomenon known as “stick–slip”, leading to smother movement. This in turn helps with performance and patient compliance. It also meets relevant standards for patient contact, both direct and indirect, having been tested for the absence of cytotoxic potential, acute systemic toxicity and skin irritation.

Fuchs has a long history of providing innovative lubricant products, with it now covering most applications and industries. It operates in more than 50 countries, including the UK, and has around 6,000 employees. It says that rather than focusing just on meeting standards, it looks for perfection.
