Shropshire oil and grease manufacturer Morris Lubricants recently welcomed secondary students to its facility in Castle Foregate. The group from Shrewsbury School was greeted by Adrian Hill, the company’s technology manager, who took them on a detailed tour of the factory.
Hill shared Morris Lubricant’s long industry history with the students, which dates to 1869. Once a candle factory, it is now Europe’s top independent lubricant maker, producing a diverse range of high-quality products that include transmission and gear oil, marine and industrial grease, coolant and slideway oil.
Afterwards, the technology manager led a training seminar that detailed the functions of lubricants like oil and grease. Hill emphasised how important employing high quality lubricants that meet original equipment manufacturer (OEM) specifications was.
The students expressed a keen interest when Hill opened the floor for a question-and-answer round. The company reported that the quality of questions from the group was impressive and displayed a genuine enthusiasm to investigate the chemistry involved in oils and other lubricants, manufacturing methods and the overall lubricants industry.
The secondary students undertook a tour next and saw Morris Lubricant’s manufacturing site in action. The group witnessed first-hand what Hill had instructed them on and saw results of the company’s major capital investment in the facility. The tour followed the entire production journey starting with raw materials like additives and base oils arriving and being stored. The materials were then blended in cutting-edge tanks before being processed at the quality control (QC) lab.
The tour ended at the filling hall, where lubricants were packaged in different sizes to suit customer needs.
