Bio lubricant report reveals recent market developments

Recent research undertaken by DataM Intelligence analysing the bio lubricants market has forecast considerable growth.

The report highlighted key developments across multiple sectors including marine, industrial and automotive as driving factors, listing major lubricant makers and their activities.

Researchers sited the relationship between Malaysia’s Petronas Lubricants’ international and English engineering enterprise Bosch Rexroth. The two companies joined forces to produce universal tractor transmission oil (UTTO), agricultural oil and hydraulic oil to help push greater adoption of more sustainable industrial fluids.

Many academic researchers are now reporting developments in nontoxic biodegradable, solid lubricants to displace toxic materials used in agricultural machinery indicating emerging research and development trends focused on bio lubricants.

The forecast also highlighted leading independent lubricant manufacturer Fuchs Group’s takeover of Boss Lubricants. The acquisition was specifically designed to boost the company’s portfolio of bio-based and sustainable lubricants. However, other lubricant businesses are already releasing bio-based products like Castrol’s environmentally acceptable lubricant, “BioStat ST”. Formulated for stabilisers and stern tubes, the product is minimally toxic, biodegradable and non-bioaccumulative. It also offers improved resistance to corrosion and oxidation.

A global leader in specialist lubricants, Klüber, is also developing eco-friendly solutions. It is bringing to market next generation environmentally responsible bio-based lubricants formulated with mass-balanced REDcert2 bio feedstocks. Its aim is to cut the emissions and carbon footprints of companies while still offering them peak performance.

The report added that along with lubricant manufacturers researching, developing and releasing bio lubricants, an increase in sustainability frameworks and further regulations is also propelling biodegradable lubricant adoption on a global scale.
