Energy giant BP and EnBW have chosen Ventus International as the contract resource provider for their UK offshore wind projects, which together will have a capacity of 5.9GW.
In a statement, Ventus International’s Managing Director, Michael Lynch, said the company was elated to have been chosen to work with EnBW and BP, thus expanding its range of clients for both floating and fixed-bottom wind power generation. He added:
“We are proud to be involved with such a high-profile joint venture and look forward to helping ensure access to the best talent in the industry, through our extensive candidate networks and strong track record, across the offshore renewables sectors.”
While BP is traditionally and oil and gas company, as well as the maker of Castrol lubricants like gear oil for wind turbines, it plans to become a more broad-based energy company. Together with EnBW, it won the lease rights for offshore wind in two areas north of Wales, in the Irish Sea. The Mona and Morgan windfarms, as they are now known, will have a combined capacity of 3GW. In addition, the joint venture also won the lease rights for the 2.9GW Morven offshore windfarm in the ScotWind licensing round.
An operational centre will be established in Scotland to manage the Morven project, which will be located about 37 miles north east of Aberdeen. In addition, BP plans to build a centre of excellence for its global offshore wind operations and maintenance in Aberdeen, bringing some 120 direct jobs to the city.
