Chevron Technical Center’s vice president, Balaji Krishnamurthy, has given an interview with ADIPEC News in which he talked about the need for a balanced energy transition.
Krishnamurthy said:
“Our industry shares the world’s ambition for reducing emissions, a challenge larger than what any one company, industry or country can achieve alone. I am optimistic that we can overcome hurdles to energy progress through collaboration and technology advancements.”
Chevron, which also makes the Texaco grease and lubricant products, says that oil and gas will continue to play a vital role in meeting the world’s need for energy for decades to come. It says it is therefore trying to reduce the carbon intensity of its hydrocarbons production while also developing low-carbon solutions for the future.
Krishnamurthy told ADIPEC News that a number of technology breakthroughs and pathways would be needed to meet the growing demand for energy as part of a balanced energy transition. He pointed to some of the innovations at Chevron, such as the first 20,000 pounds per square inch technology in the deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Chevron’s operations there produce oil with some of the lowest carbon emissions found anywhere in the world. He also said that by incorporating advanced technologies into its upstream operations, Chevron has slashed the intensity of its methane emissions by 64% since 2016.
The company has also collaborated with partners to develop and scale new solutions, such as its partnership with Svante Inc. to develop technology to capture carbon dioxide.
