ExxonMobil has responded to the rising popularity of electric vehicles (EVs) by launching a new range of lubricants specially developed to meet their specific drivetrain requirements.
The new suite of lubricants, which are available from Mobil distributors, have been formulated to help performance aspects of EVs, such as by improving operational safety, increasing the distance travelled on a single charge, and prolonging the life of components.
In the new suite, products are divided into four groups. First, the series of Mobil EV Grease products will protect components like constant velocity joints, e-motors, and bearings to ensure good reliability and performance. Next, the Mobil EV Drive series of oils are designed to safeguard the gears and bearings of EVs’ reduction gearboxes with an extended service life. For EVs that have an electric motor incorporated in the gearbox, ExxonMobil has released the Mobil EV Cool Drive variant, which also helps cool the electric motor and other electronics.
To help with other thermal management, ExxonMobil has provided The Mobil EV Therm series of fluids, which are designed to effectively transfer heat from components like batteries, power electronics, and electric motors, thus helping to increase their usable life.
The vice president of finished lubricants at ExxonMobil, Russ Green, said about the launch:
“Mobility is changing and electric vehicles are becoming a greater part of the mix. Customers and OEMs are looking to optimize the range and safety performance of their electric vehicles, and ExxonMobil is uniquely positioned to deliver these benefits.”
