TotalEnergies, the French oil and gas major, recently announced a hydrocarbon discovery off the coast of the Republic of Congo.
The find was encountered at the “Moho G” structure on the company’s Moho licence after the drilling of an exploration well.
An international operator, TotalEnergies conducts both commercial and industrial activities in over 120 countries. Via Total Lubricants, it also develops and manufactures high performance lubrication solutions like refrigeration compressor oil, mould release oil, vacuum pump fluid and transformer oil.
The new well met a hydrocarbon column of around 160 meters in quality Albian reservoirs. As a result, a considerable sampling and data acquisition campaign was performed to support both subsurface interpretation and development efforts in the future.
The discovery at Moho G, along with the previously made find at the Moho F structure close by, represents estimated recoverable resources of almost 100 million barrels. TotalEnergies plans to tie these potential resources back to the Moho facilities already in place.
TotalEnergies’ Senior Vice-President for Exploration, Nicola Mavilla, commented that the hydrocarbon column recently encountered on the Moho licence was valuable due to how close it was to the production infrastructure, as it allowed for a short cycle, cost-efficient, tie-back development.
Via its operating arm (TotalEnergies EP Congo), TotalEnergies holds 63.5 per cent stake and operator status of the Moho licence, partnered with Trident Energy (21.5 per cent) and the Société Nationale des Pétroles du Congo (15 per cent). Existing production infrastructure includes two floating production units titled “Likouf” and “Alima” that have a combined output of approximately 90 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day.
