Fuchs lubricants recently announced a new partnership with Clemson University in South Carolina, with the aim of developing sustainable and innovative solutions for the wind energy sector.

Through its partnership with the university’s Dominion Energy Innovation Centre, Fuchs will supply quality lubricants like greases and turbine oils along with development and testing expertise.

The new partnership with the university exemplifies Fuchs’ dedication to being at the forefront of wind turbine lubrication solutions. The lubrication maker takes pride in its support of technical advancements and education in the wind energy industry.

The Energy Innovation Centre launched in 2013 with help from $43 million worth of funding, in the form of a grant from the US Department of Energy. The government office wanted to fund a facility that was capable of fully scaled and highly accelerated tests of next-generation drivetrain technology for wind turbines.

Clemson’s facility is collaborating with Fuchs Lubricants to access its expertise to speed up the development and the deployment of cutting-edge turbine technology. Clemson Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Sez Russcher, commented:

“We appreciate the support of Fuchs Lubricants for our wind turbine drivetrain test facilities, which fulfil a critical need in advancing wind energy in the US and beyond. Our extensive collaboration with Fuchs demonstrates how industry-academic partnerships drive innovation and sustainability in renewable energy.”

The Fuchs team will work with educators and students at Clemson, training them on how to use the optimal lubrication practices – including techniques and insights that maximise both product application and use.
