Fuchs launches tool to calculate certified carbon footprint

Global lubricant player Fuchs has announced a new sustainability milestone in the form of an automated tool to calculate the certified product carbon footprint (PCF) of its solutions.

The PCF relates to the greenhouse gas emissions that are associated with a particular product. It is used by organisations to monitor their own sustainability initiatives or as an element when reporting emissions data. Fuchs has already been working with UEIL and ATIEL, which are European associations for the lubricant industry, for years in creating a guideline methodology for the industry to calculate PCFs.

The new PCF-calculation tool is based on this work and independently verified by TÜV Rheinland. It is available for Fuchs products like grease, lubricant and other fluids like coolant. It enables customers to efficiently calculate the PCF of solutions they purchase from Fuchs, which in turn helps them gain insights into their overall environmental impact. Fuchs says its innovative products also help equipment to operate more efficiently, thereby saving resources.

Fuchs SE executive board member and CTO Mathieu Boulandet explained:

“Fuchs is one of the first companies in the lubricant industry to offer PCFs on a large scale, calculated using a certified tool. Providing clear, repeatable key figures on the carbon footprint of our products is crucial for our customers and partners when it comes to making strategic, data-driven decisions.”

Fuchs itself intends to apply the tool to monitor its own voluntary initiatives aimed at sustainability, as well as to help to compile its legally mandated emissions reports.
