FUCHS participates in gruelling e-mobility challenge

The world’s biggest independent supplier of lubricant solutions, FUCHS, has successfully participated in the challenging ID.4 Alaska Tour with an electric vehicle (EV).

This epic tour goes from the most northerly reaches of the US highway system at Prudhoe Bay in Alaska to its southernmost tip in Key West, Florida. It involves driving for about 40 days to navigate just under a thousand miles of road, with temperatures varying starkly between the start and end points. Almost a hundred charging stops were made along the way.

The vehicle was, of course, equipped with FUCHS’s BluEV range of products for electric and hybrid vehicles. FUCHS Lubricants CEO Keith Brewer said about the achievement:

“We are excited to contribute our expertise and FUCHS BluEV products to this journey. This record-breaking drive through cold and hot weather proves that e-mobility can go all the way.”

Rainer Zietlow of CHALLENGE4, which specializes in organising automotive challenges, led the tour. He and his team also drove the stock Volkswagen ID.4 electric SUV all the way to the starting point in Alaska, before turning around and beginning the epic journey south.

On his way to Florida, Zietlow called by at FUCHS sites in Chicago, Illinois and Kansas City, Kansas. Workers at the sites got to meet the team and hear about how the FUCHS BluEV range of coolant, grease and lubricant products had performed on the journey. Zietlow reported experiencing no issues with the products at any point in the journey, even at extremely cold temperatures.
