Speciality chemicals provider Lubrizol has announced the launch of Solplus ES2000 for reducing styrene emissions when processing composites.

The new wax compound is designed for thermosetting resin systems where curing occurs at ambient temperatures to eliminate the need for heat ovens. It helps suppress styrene emissions when manufacturing using materials like DCPD (dicyclopentadiene), unsaturated polyesters and vinyl esters. This is important for meeting sustainability targets and improving worker safety.

Lubrizol’s global manager for marketing products related to composites and plastics, Kathy Vanderhorst, said:

“For composite manufacturers, controlling styrene emissions is more than an environmental issue. It directly impacts worker safety, regulatory compliance and manufacturing efficiency. Solplus ES2000 delivers meaningful reductions in styrene emissions without compromising laminate quality or processing performance, while its high bio-based content helps support broader sustainability goals.”

Solplus ES2000 is just the most recent addition to the growing range of additives from Lubrizol, which also offers refrigeration compressor oil under the Icematic brand. The company says these solutions enable manufacturers to differentiate their products while improving processing, maximising performance and assisting the drive towards sustainability goals.

The company says the benefits of Solplus ES2000 go beyond offering reduced styrene emissions, a high degree of renewable content and good laminate performance. It claims the product can help address changing regulatory, safety, health and sustainability issues in a practical manner without the need for substantial changes to established manufacturing processes.

Solplus ES2000 is available in the UK and the wider EMEAI region, North America and the Asia Pacific through Lubrizol representatives.
