Mobil awards contract to FPSO provider

The Guyana business division of ExxonMobil recently awarded a new contract to MODEC, a leading provider of Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading (FPSO) solutions for its Hammerhead project.

The provisional contract from ExxonMobil Guyana is currently pending required regulatory and government approval. The first phase of the project covers design and front-end engineering, while the second encompasses procurement, engineering, installation and construction.

The contract will now let MODEC commence activities related to design of the FPSO to guarantee the earliest possible start for the project in 2029, providing that the project gets the necessary approvals. Performance of phase two (installation and construction) is subject to regulatory and government approval but also project sanction from ExxonMobil and its co-venturers at Stabroek Block.

Concurrently, the Operations and Maintenance Enabling Agreement requires for MODEC’s fleet in Guyana has also been established to allow the maintenance and operations of several FPSOs under a contractual arrangement designed for long-term usage.

Once in operation the Hammerhead project will have a production capacity of approximately 150,000 oil barrels a day plus associated water and gas. Employing a SOFEC Spread Mooring System, the FPSO vessel will be moored at a depth of around 1,025 metres.

CEO at MODEC Hirohiko Miyata, commented:

“We look forward to collaborating closely with ExxonMobil Guyana to ensure the successful delivery of this second FPSO, contributing to the advancement of the offshore energy sector in Guyana.”
