Four employees of Shrewsbury-based Morris Lubricants have completed a demanding sponsored cycle ride and raised over £3,500 for local children’s hospices.
On a hot summer’s day, Owen Lloyd, Billy Salter, Dan Stanley and Kim Marmaras cycled the 125-mile journey over 12 hours. The route took them past Stanmore Hall Touring Park, Ludlow Touring and Holiday Park, Oxon Hall Touring Park and Bow House Country Park, which are all operated by sister company Morris Leisure. They also visited Hope House in Morda, one of the hospices benefitting from the event, where they were greeted by one of the children there, as well as staff members. Workmates at Morris Lubricants’ Shrewsbury factory and office also stayed after work to welcome the cyclists back.
The Hope House and Ty Gobaith children’s hospices have become the adopted charity of Morris Lubricants and Morris Leisure for this year, as the event is just one of a series of planned fundraisers to help support the hospices’ activities.
In a statement, Morris Lubricants Executive Chairman Andrew Goddard, who joined the team for the last four miles on a vintage delivery bike, said:
“It was a brilliant achievement by the four cyclists in very hot and energy-sapping weather conditions. They really are heroes and did the company proud in raising a fantastic amount of money for such a wonderful charity.”
