The Paratherm NF heat-transfer fluid (HTF) is premium food-grade fluid that is suitable for a range of applications, especially when incidental contact may be a concern, with operating temperatures between -4°C and 332°C. This product has been registered with the US Food and Drug Administration as being food-grade since 1989, and complies with the NSF HT-1 standard for HTFs where incidental contact with food may occur.
Paratherm NF is made from the highest quality mineral base oils that have gone through a number hydrotreatment processes to create a blend that is extremely pure with a high level of naphthenic content. This combines with the paraffinic content to give the product a low viscosity despite its high density, making it a highly effective premium HTF for numerous applications. The extremely pure formulation means it does not foul and is free from odours. It also has a low pour point and performs well under cold starts.
Where Paratherm NF really shines is in its unrivalled thermal stability thanks to the high naphthenic content. This means it can be used in operations for much longer than fluids made purely from paraffinic mineral oils, and it remains safe even after years of operational life. While even Paratherm NF will eventually degrade over time, however slowly, it remains inherently resistant to thermal cracking causing any fouling. In a case study, PolyVISIONS Inc. CEO Larry Bourland said that the Paratherm NG heat-transfer fluid had proven safe, durable, and reliable over the years when using it within a closed-loop thermal fluid system for making speciality plastics. He added:
“In addition the Paratherm fluid resists oxidation better than competitive fluids so there is a lot less accumulated carbon residue in the equipment. If that residue is permitted to accumulate on the surface of heating elements, heat control becomes crippled. The same thing will happen if residue coats the pumps or the surfaces of the cooling apparatus.”
Paratherm NF is not just limited to processing pharmaceuticals, foods, and beverages. It is also suitable for a range of other applications, such as when extracting compounds like CBD, processing and storing asphalt, engineering building materials and wood, processing biofuel and chemicals, manufacturing plastics and polymers, processing textiles, drying industrial material and processing oil and gas.
