In its proud tradition of supporting filmmaking, Petronas has released a new short film titled “Virunthu”, which translates from Malay as “Taste of Love.”

This poignant film is dedicated to those people who work relentlessly to bring unity, joy and warmth to celebrations. It has been released to coincide with the celebration of Deepavali this year.

Ismail Kamarul, an acclaimed filmmaker, directed the film. In addition to being an energy producer and a maker of advanced lubricants like agricultural oil, Petronas prides itself on showcasing shared Malaysian unity and values.

Petronas’s vice president for communications, Ir. Norafizal Mat Saad, said about the production:

“Every celebration holds quiet acts of love that keep us connected. “Virunthu” is our reminder that progress begins with care through the seemingly unseen hands and simple gestures that bring people together.”

Set in a home’s first Deepavali celebration, the film centres around the host, Shalini. She of course wants to make everything perfect while at work in the kitchen. Unfortunately, this quest for perfection means she forgets her loved ones and the importance of enjoying their company. Her mother brings a reflective moment, however, through her subtle presence amidst the celebration, reminding her daughter of what really matters.

The video is available to view on the official Facebook and YouTube accounts of Petronas. In a press release, Petronas expressed its desire that the story’s values of togetherness and love would help drive progress for everyone and keep them moving forward in unity.
