Malaysia-based energy and lubricant company Petronas has announced the release of a new film focused on the Rukun Negara, a national pledge.
While primarily a supplier of energy, Petronas also makes lubricant products like agricultural oil for the world. Despite its global footprint, the company often sponsors film productions in honour of its Malaysian roots. The new film is titled “With All Our Hearts” and was directed by Ismail Kamarul, who has worked on other productions for Petronas. It highlights the Rukun Negara, a pledge that embodies shared values like unity, justice, loyalty and morality.
Ir. Norafizal Mat Saad, the vice president for strategic communications and relations at Petronas, said the Rukun Negara is not simply a recited pledge, adding:
“It is an enduring promise that calls us to honour our shared values in every action we take. This is what inspired us to produce this film for every Malaysian to embrace. May these values, when truly lived, keep us united as one nation, with all our hearts.”
The film centres on a Malaysian classroom. A new teacher, Cikgu Murni, observes how many students are routinely reciting the pledge rather than really understanding it. She resolves to remedy this and guides her students in uncovering the underlying importance and meaning of the five principles in the pledge. Through storytelling, the film exemplifies how the pledge should be regarded as guiding values to live by rather than mere words to repeat.
The film can be viewed on the official YouTube channel of Petronas.
