Malaysia’s state-owned energy company Petronas has announced the release of a film celebrating the country’s culture of caring – something that helps unite the diverse population.
“PenJAGA” was produced to coincide with the Malaysia Day and Merdeka (National Day) public holidays. The renowned Hyrul Anuar directed the film, which reflects upon how collective understanding and compassion help build and maintain a society that is both harmonious and resilient.
Siti Azlina Abdul Latif, the senior general manager at Petronas for strategic communications, said the film celebrates the neighbourly spirit that is typical of Malaysian unity, adding that it also inspires them to continue caring for each other. He also said:
“Aligned with Petronas’ 50th anniversary celebration this year, ‘Continuing a legacy together for our future,’ the film is also a reminder that we owe our solid foundation to those who have supported us in good faith. We will continue to make Malaysia proud, locally and abroad.”
Petronas, which also supplies its lubricant and coolant range to the UK, has made the film available on its official Facebook and YouTube pages. The setting for the film is a block of flats where a community of diverse people care and support each other as they live together harmoniously. Security guard Faizul, played by award-winning actor Beto Kusyairi, is the assigned security guard for the community. In assisting the residents, he goes above and beyond the call of duty. The story conveys how the support he receives from the residents pleasantly surprises him.
