Shell’s exploration boss set to step down

Ceri Powell, who is head of exploration at Royal Dutch Shell – the oil giant that manufactures the likes of Mobil Gargoyle Arctic 300, Shell Omala S2 G 320, and Shell Gadus S2 V100 3 – has confirmed he will step down in February.

The news comes following a three-year run in which Mr Powell’s job was made increasingly difficult by the extreme downturn of the oil industry, which kicked in during 2014, and which saw the company make extreme cutbacks in its hunt for new energy reserves.

Oil prices are only now starting to recover from the downturn, following an agreement between many oil producing countries and the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, to curb oil production, with a view to bolstering the market.

Powell, who is a geologist, became a part of the Royal Dutch Shell team 27 years ago, but will leave his current position in the company on 14th February.

According to a spokesperson for Royal Dutch Shell, when he leaves, Powell will take up a new position as the managing director of Brunei Shell Petroleum in March meaning he will still be very much a part of the company going forward, although in a slightly different capacity.

It has been announced that Powell’s replacement will be Marc Gerrits, who has been working for Royal Dutch Shell since 1986, and who started his career with Shell in Australia, where he originally worked as an exploration geologist. Gerrits is currently the upstream vice president.
