Slicker Recycling teams up with Castrol

Castrol and Slicker Recycling have teamed up for a pilot programme for recycling oil.

The programme is the first of its kind in the UK. Customers in the industrial and automotive sectors can now discard used lubricants like gear oil and hydraulic oil in a tank provided by Slicker Recycling.

These tanks are fitted with digital meters, so when a tank is nearly full, Slicker sends a lorry to collect the waste oil. It is then sent to a facility in Denmark to be recycled. This makes the process simpler for the customer while also minimising the number of collections, because the tanks will always be close to full capacity. The re-refined oil can then be used by Castrol to make new lubricants.

Slicker Recycling’s executive chairman, Mark Olpin, said the company was proud to be associated with an iconic brand like Castrol. He said that by using tanks with digital meters:

“…it offers a simplified end-to-end lubricant management system, meaning customers don’t have to call us, and only full loads will be collected. It allows for a more efficient service and maximises the opportunity to collect more used lubricating oil, which will then be put back into circulation.”

Slicker Recycling won a King’s Award for Enterprise this year due to overseas trade growth, sustainable development, business excellence and robust working practices.

The first 250 tanks with digital telemetry will now be rolled out to customers around the UK. Olpin said the pilot would help them to find more sustainable ways to collect and process waste oil.
