TotalEnergies forms sustainable energy partnership with SLB

Tip Sheets

SLB and France-based TotalEnergies have announced a new partnership aimed at developing innovative digital solutions to make the production of hydrocarbons more sustainable.

TotalEnergies, which also makes the Total metalworking and lubricant products, has a strategy called “More energy, less emissions, more value”, whereby it seeks to focus on oil and gas projects that can produce at a lower cost, with minimal emissions of greenhouse gasses.

Both parties have already worked together in using the cutting-edge reservoir simulator Intersect. The two companies will now leverage their combined experience to develop innovative new digital software to more accurately model the subsurface and improve the efficiency of production.

TotalEnergies says that there is also potential for AI to process the collected data and find ways to reduce the carbon intensities of current fields, as well as inform the emerging industry in storing carbon underground.

TotalEnergies’ OneTech President, Namita Shah, said that the new innovative software:

“…will allow us to develop cutting-edge next-generation software, digital applications and new algorithms applied to geoscience. Thanks to these innovative modelling technologies, we will better utilise the analyses of geological reservoirs and basins in the oil and gas sector to reduce emissions, and we will progress in geological carbon storage.”

Teams from TotalEnergies will also support SLB in its decarbonisation efforts by solarising its sites through agreements that it has signed in the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Japan. It says its competitive bespoke solutions will not only reduce SLB’s carbon footprint, but it will also come with guaranteed price transparency.
