UKLA Young Employee of the Year named

The United Kingdom Lubricants Association (UKLA) has named this year’s Young Employee of the Year.

The winner is 27-year-old Owen Lloyd, of Morris Lubricants, making him the first Morris employee to win a UKLA prize in 19 years.

Owen originally joined Morris Lubricants, a leading independent lubricant maker in Europe, in 2016 as one of two entrants into the company’s graduate programme. He then went on to achieve a broader understanding of the firm and its domestic and international operations by working in various departments over the course of a year. He then settled into a full-time position in the business’ procurement department as a buyer. Earlier in the year, he was promoted to group purchasing manager.

Since joining Morris, he has gained a Diploma with the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply and qualified for the UKLA Certificate of Lubricant Competence. He is looking to gain Chartered Membership in future by completing additional modules that will also help him develop professionally.

Owen expressed his surprise at winning the award but admitted he appreciated the recognition for his work. He added:

“Morris Lubricants has been investing in training for myself and other young employees for many years and it’s great that the company has given me such a responsible role within the company. Now I have an opportunity to help other new graduates develop into the industry.”

He is currently responsible for sourcing raw materials from across the world, not just for Morris but also for sister company GB Lubricants.
