Construction work is now underway on a new wind farm located at Devon’s Den Brook valley, with the company behind the project indicating that it should be up and running in around a year.
Although there was some opposition among local people, the ruling from the appeal judge in March was that the project should be allowed to move forward without further legal proceedings.
The firm developing the wind farm is Renewable Energy Solutions (RES), and it has stated that the facility – situated between Bow and North Tawton – will provide sufficient electricity for approximately 9,000 households.
Furthermore, those living in the vicinity of the nine turbines measuring 394ft each, which will make up the facility, are set to receive an annual £100 electricity bill discount.
Aside from its benefits to the community in terms of renewable energy, the new wind farm will also benefit businesses, such as those that manufacture and supply the specialist lubricants needed to run the turbines, like Mobilith SHC 220.
Work has already started on the construction of access tracks and RES has said that it will create a new Whiddon Down link road for improving road safety, visibility and traffic flow at the A3124 and A382 junction. This is expected to start during October and be ready for use by the end of this year.
The opening of the wind farm has been scheduled for late 2016, with the turbines set to be delivered and put in place during the summer. The planning consent lasts for 25 years.
