Description
Both these lithium complex greases have been developed for extreme-pressure applications, with PETRONAS Grease LiX EP 2/380 being oriented towards general industrial applications, including at high temperatures, while the 2/170 version, in addition to being suitable for various industrial applications, is also appropriate for lubricating components in commercial vehicles, such as prop shafts and wheel bearings.
The two greases are based on formulations of mineral base oils thickened with a lithium complex soap, with an advanced package of additives also inhibiting corrosion and rust formation, reducing oxidisation and enabling the grease to cope with extreme pressure. Even at relatively high temperatures, both greases resist water wash-out and protect against wear while maintaining a superb load-carrying ability.
LiX EP 2/170 is suitable for operating temperatures between -25°C and +140°C, with it being recommended for component lubrication in agricultural and industrial equipment; chassis and general purpose lubrication for commercial transport vehicles, especially when friction and roller bearings operate under high temperatures and extreme pressure; and the lubrication of prop shafts and wheel bearings in passenger, utility and commercial vehicles.
LiX EP 2/380 has a slightly different operating temperature range of -20°C to +160°C, with recommended applications including industrial centralised lubrication systems and typical applications that call for a lithium complex grease capable of handling high temperatures, possibly in a wet environment, such as cams, slides and bearings – especially large anti-friction and plain bearings.
The two greases show good levels of pumpability and superb cohesive and adhesive properties, which in turn minimise leakage and reduce the need to re-lubricate. They continue to lubricate and protect even when exposed to water thanks to good wash-out resistance, but should they become contaminated with water, additives protect surfaces from corrosion and rust. Both have good thermal and oxidation stability, but LiX EP 2/170 also has superior mechanical stability.
Both greases meet the GC-LB, DIN 51502 KP2N-20 and ISO 12924 XBDIB2 performance standards, with LiX EP 2/170 also meeting the MB 265.1, MAN 284 Li-H2 and VOLVO Std 1277.2 (97720) standards.
