The largest independent supplier of lubricant products in the world, Fuchs, has introduced the new RENOLIN FECC 10 SYN coolant for digital infrastructure.

Immersion cooling is emerging as a more efficient way to keep the heavy-duty IT equipment in places like data centres cool. It can often save energy compared to air cooling by reducing the need for air conditioning, but any fluid that comes into close contact with electrical components has special requirements.

Fuchs claims that its RENOLIN FECC 10 SYN is formulated to operate safely and reliably when in contact with thermally demanding electrical components. This could include components like capacitors, switchgear, and the chips in devices like fast data links and servers. The company says that even under high voltages and elevated thermal loads, the coolant provides long-lasting, consistent cooling thanks to its leading synthetic formulation. It also works well under low temperatures, making it suitable for extreme conditions.

Fuchs manager for developing new markets, Brian Kinkade, said the new product was representative of the company’s aim of enabling its customers to safely adopt immersion coolants. He also said:

“With a balance between cooling performance via low viscosity, flammability safety, material compatibility, and price with our new RENOLIN FECC 10 SYN, we felt it was important to get UL 2417 certified immersion cooling fluid for ICT equipment. These factors are one less thing for the industry to worry about.”

Fuchs says the new coolant is the first on the market to receive UL 2417 certification, so it complies with the strictest standards for performance and safety.
