At its recent open day, the Social Enterprise Education Laboratory (SEEd.Lab) presented a selection of seven new ventures for social change from its third cohort.
SEEd.Lab is an incubator programme run by Tata Consultancy Services and Petronas, which in addition to providing leading lubricant solutions is committed to creating additional value for its stakeholders and the wider society. The programme helps young social entrepreneurs by nurturing and supporting their efforts to change communities for the better.
Datuk Sazali Hamzah, the chief executive for Downstream and an executive vice president at Petronas, said that the new ventures and their fresh ideas were a reminder of how entrepreneurship can serve as a powerful catalyst for societal change, adding:
“Our commitment to nurturing social enterprises aligns with Petronas’ vision of creating a sustainable future for all. I am proud to support this initiative by harnessing our capabilities and networks and welcome collaborations with those that share our vision to cultivate sustainable social enterprises capable of creating significant impact.”
Among the social change ventures was ProLadang, which helps farmers to make better decisions through a digital crop-monitoring tool, and SebijiHub, which helps smallholder farmers to access capital through a rewards-based crowdfunding platform.
Next, a farming system called Quinterra seeks to improve sustainability by converting food waste into feed for farming healthy vegetables and fish, while Aqufish seeks to help fish farmers accelerate the growth of their fish by optimising their feed through affordable technology. The other ventures were ArtsProud, Learnardo and Sage.
