Shell Recharge to use MFG’s chargers

Users of Shell’s electric vehicle (EV) charging service will be able to make use of MFG’s own network of chargers through the Shell Recharge app thanks to a new roaming agreement between the two companies.

MFG, as a major independent operator of forecourts in the country with more than 900 locations, expects to invest some £400 million in installing 2,800 electric vehicle chargers at 500 sites by the time this decade ends. These chargers are a mix of ultra-fast 350 kW and 150 kW units. The deal will make it more convenient for Shell Recharge customers, especially fleet drivers, to charge up at MFG sites on motorways and other key arteries, in addition to Shell’s own forecourts.

MFG’s operations director for the EV network, Martin Symes, said that cooperating with partners was key to the company’s aim of providing accessible charging for all drivers, adding:

“Our sites have been built with customer journeys and safety in mind and offer ultra-rapid charging with food-to-go offerings in safe, well-lit and secure environments that include services such as valeting. MFG EV Power is also excited to have a pipeline of amazing sites to add in 2023.”

Shell, which also makes a carbon neutral range of lubricants and grease products, only uses 100% renewable energy for its charging network, something that is a critical requirement for some drivers. MFG chargers also only uses 100% certified renewable energy, so drivers can continue to enjoy peace of mind when charging.
