Energy and lubricant producer TotalEnergies has become the first company in the private sector to be awarded three stars under the recently implemented FIA Road Safety Index.
FIA launched the index as a tool for both large and small companies and organisations around the world to track how their activities are affecting safety on the roads, report on what they are doing to tackle this, and ultimately make improvements. Some 1.3 million of the world’s people are killed in car crashes every year, with many more being left with injuries or other afflictions.
Michel Charton, a senior vice president at TotalEnergies, said the company took pride in the FIA Road Safety Index recognizing its long-standing commitment to safety on the road, adding that for some time:
“…we have considered safety as a daily battle that never comes for granted and that is waged with humility and vigilance. We do hope that this FIA programme will encourage other companies from the private sector to reduce their safety footprints and thus, collectively, lead the way for a safer mobility.”
Jacob Bangsgaard, the Secretary General for Automobile Mobility and Tourism at the FIA, said that everyone needed to begin establishing a safety-oriented culture if the 2030 target of halving road crashes is to be achieved. He said he was happy that TotalEnergies, which also makes the Total range of grease and coolants, had earned the top score, adding that he believed it would encourage other organisations to adopt the index.
