The Formula 1 Aston Martin Red Bull Racing team and ExxonMobil have renewed their collaboration with a new multiyear agreement.
In addition to staying on as the team’s lubricant, technology, and fuel partner, engineers at ExxonMobil will also provide support for developing future lubricants to further improve the performance of engines and gearboxes under racing conditions.
ExxonMobil has been involved in Formula 1 since the first race at Silverstone in 1950. Since beginning its collaboration with Red Bull Racing for the 2017 season, the company has worked with the team’s engine suppliers to improve its Mobil 1 lubricants and Esso Synergy racing fuel, resulting in faster lap times. What’s more, findings from the racetrack often make their way into consumer products, such as the passenger car engine oil variant of Mobil 1.
Nigel Searle, the senior vice president of lubricants at ExxonMobil said that Aston Martin Red Bull Racing had demonstrated itself as a perfect partner to showcase the companies Esso Synergy and Mobil 1 brands. He added:
“While on the track we have been able to deliver performance-enhancing technology to the team, at the same time we have worked closely with Aston Martin Red Bull Racing off the track to provide technology that is also road-relevant to the modern-day consumer.”
The fully synthetic Mobil 1 engine oil was first used in F1 racing in 1981. Since then, 130 cars that have won Grand Prix events have benefitted from the lubrication it provides, helping teams to win five constructors’ and six drivers’ championships.
