WHAT IS A HEAT TRANSFER FLUID?
In short, a heat transfer fluid is a gas or liquid that is used in various industrial processes to transport and store thermal energy along a process. Although water is the most economical and efficient heat transfer fluid, it comes with its limitations in thermal performance.
In low temperature applications, brines or glycols are added to the water to extend the operating temperature. For high temperature applications, a non-aqueous product is required. These "Hot Oils" are generally based on hydrocarbons (mineral oil) or synthetic technologies such as silicones and aromatic blends.
Heat Transfer Fluids, also known as "Thermal Fluids", "Thermal Oils", "Heating Fluids", "Cooling Fluids", and "Hot Oils" should be able to generate high temperatures at low system pressures, be low maintenance, highly efficient, & non-corrosive, and allow for accurate temperature regulation and uniformity for indirect process heating applications.
