Shell resiliency project reaches new milestone

A recent report has revealed that Shell subsidiary, the Shell Pipeline Company LP, has made new progress in its Louisiana project called “Shell Fourchon Resiliency”.

The initiative involves constructing an elevated oil metering facility in the US state’s Fourchon Junction. According to Louisiana contractors Morrison Energy, the roll out of the project’s initial modules are confirmed. The modules have been loaded and transported for installation in Port Fourchon, and the contractor has stated it is executing its part of the project safely and to schedule. As a result, the new facility is on target to be commissioned by summer next year.

Morrison Energy was hired by Shell in 2025 to oversee each phase of the project’s execution. This involves comprehensive management, subcontractor coordination scheduling, site development and logistics oversight. The contractors will also manage around 500 tonnes of modular components as well as electrical integration and instrumentation, required demolition, sub-foundation construction and interconnecting pipeline installations.

Port Fourchon currently plays a vital role in national economic security, supplying the US with around 18% of its total oil supply.

The new project aims to improve resilience from environmental risks, system dependability and oil flow capacity in the region, while strengthening an important link in the energy network of the Gulf of Mexico. The initiative is aligned with Shell USA’s strategy to upgrade current energy transport assets to meet environmental challenges and evolving production demands.

Along with Shell, other partners involved in the project include the energy service provider, Danos, and US oil and gas giant Chevron, owner of the Texaco lubricant brand that provides products ranging from gear oil to grease.
