Downstream 2020 to go online

With the ongoing pandemic ruling out traditional expos and conferences, Reuters Events has decided to organise Downstream 2020 as a virtual event.

Despite the change of format, many big industry names from the downstream industry, including petrochemical and lubricant manufacturers, have confirmed their commitment to the event. These include Shell, ExxonMobil, BASF, P&G Chemicals, Chevron and BP. The organisers are even promising the most impressive array of speakers ever seen at an event, online or otherwise.

Some 150 speakers will participate in over 40 on-demand and live events—including presentations, panels and interviews—that will be made available to the more than 15,000 expected participants. Some sessions will be interactive, such as allowing participants to ask questions or vote in polls. Face-to-face networking will also be supported through a virtual meeting platform.

The global project director of the unit responsible for the event, Kerr Jeferies, said that amid the background of low demand and oil prices, it was especially important for downstream operators to network and collectively find a way through the upcoming challenges. He added:

“Downstream has a reputation as not only the biggest but also the most innovative conference in the sector. With the unprecedented challenges we face in 2020, it made sense for us to reinvent this vital event in a way that delivers more value than ever before.”

Those interested in participating can register for free on the event’s website. The event itself is scheduled for June 10 and 11.
