Everything you need to know about Mobil

Mobil is one of the leading names in the oil industry. Belonging to parent company ExxonMobil, which also runs Esso, Mobil is part of this industry leader that exists in order to supply fuel to meet the needs of the global population.

Safe, reliable, eco-conscious

Safety and responsibility are at the forefront of everything ExxonMobil does, and the company is also a forerunner when it comes to leading-edge research and innovation, being involved in the development of technology that has the ability to fuel the world while focusing on the issue of climate change.

ExxonMobil is one of the planet’s largest providers of energy and manufacturers of top quality chemical products. Its range includes both synthetic and mineral-based oils, which it has been supplying for over 120 years. The brand’s customers include those in the automotive, commercial and marine industries.

History

The history of the Mobil brand dates back to the 1800s. In 1882, the Standard Oil Company and Trust joined forces with The Vacuum Oil Company, which was established in 1866. The trust formed the Standard Oil Company of New York in 1882, then in 1911 the companies were separated due to the Supreme Court of the US breaking up the combination.

Twenty years later, the two united once more to create the Socony-Vacuum Corporation. The organisation then went through several name changes, from the Socony-Vacuum Oil Company, Inc. in 1934, to the Socony Mobil Oil Company, Inc. in 1955, and then the Mobil Oil Corporation in 1966.

In 1974, Mobil decided to try and diversify, and in this interest acquired a 54% share of Marcor Inc., who owned the Container Corporation of America as well as Montgomery Ward & Co. In 1976, Mobil and Marcor merged, and this was followed in the mid-1980s by the sale of both the Container Corporation of America and Montgomery Ward & Co.

ExxonMobil was then established in 1998, and the company continued to focus on extracting, processing and distributing oil products.

A multifaceted manufacturer

There is a Mobil-branded lubricant for every application, from everyday vehicle engine oils used by a high proportion of the world’s population, to heavy duty engine oils and specialised lubricants designed for use in specific industries.

Whether a customer requires a premium car engine oil to enhance the performance of their vehicle, or a lubricant to keep a tractor or other piece of agricultural equipment in the best possible working order, Mobil can supply this. The firm also produces a range of lubricants designed for use with all kinds of industrial equipment.

Farmers rely upon Mobil for their top quality agricultural oil, while those involved in manufacture turn to Mobil lubricants to grease their compressors, gears, hydraulic equipment, sideways, spindles, transformers and transmission systems.

Different industries require different types of lubricant, and Mobil produces oils to meet this need perfectly. Those involved in food and beverage processing, for example, can reliably use Mobil’s food safe lubricants, as they have been developed and tested to ensure they are most suitable for this type of application.

When you need a reliable lubricant to keep things running as smoothly and efficiently as possible, oil giant Mobil should be one of your first ports of call.
