ExxonMobil, known for its high-quality products like Mobil 1 Racing 4T, has donated $500,000 (£378,000) to the American Red Cross and the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, for flood relief in Louisiana.
In an August 19 statement on the Exxon Mobil website, the company’s chairman and chief exec Rex W. Tilerson, said:
“Our thoughts and prayers are with our friends and neighbours in Louisiana who have been impacted by storms and severe flooding in the region”
He also expressed his hope that the money would help to provide relief to the residents of Louisiana affected by the floods, which occurred as a result of heavy rainfall this month, as recovery from the disaster gets underway.
ExxonMobil has a connection to Baton Rouge, where it employers over 5,500 workers and has had operations for over 100 years. In total, the company’s Baton Rouge workers spend over 40,000 hours collectively helping out in the local community every year, supporting more than 160 local organizations.
Each year, the oil giant also donates roughly $5m (£3.8m) to Baton Rouge schools and agencies, cementing its place at the heart of the community.
The Red Cross in the area are working to provide food, shelter, counselling and a whole host of other services to those affected by the recent flood, which put the residents of Baton Rouge under tremendous strain.
The well-known agency has so far helped over 10,000 people across 50 shelters, and the donation made by ExxonMobil will no doubt help them to assist even more people in need.
