Shell Gadus S3 becomes world’s first NLGI dual-certified grease

According to Shell Lubricant Solutions, its Shell Gadus S3 V220C 2 grease has now obtained certification for NLGI High-Performance Multiuse (HPM) on top of its existing NLGI GC–LB performance, making it the world’s first grease that is dual certified.

In a statement, Shell Americas’ product application specialist for greases, Greg Morris, said that this meant that in addition to being suitable for chassis lubrication and transport bearings, the grease was also suitable for fixed-plant assets. He said the achievement testified to Shell’s commitment in pioneering new products for its customers.

Morris pointed to applications like mining, where not only do fixed-plant assets like conveyor belts require routine greasing to prevent particulate contamination and water ingress, but there is also mobile equipment needing routine lubrication for similar reasons. He added:

“The dual certification illustrates that you can simplify operations by utilizing a grease that carries both certifications. Maintenance and purchasing employees at these locations always look for consolidation and simplification to make their jobs easier, reduce inventory and keep their equipment moving.”

To receive HPM certification, Shell Gadus S3 V220C 2 had to meet required standards in areas of oil separation, heat tolerance, corrosion resistance, water resistance, mechanical stability and load-carry capacity. Furthermore, certification is re-evaluated on an annual basis to assure continued confidence in products.

The National Lubricating Grease Institute (NLGI) is a not-for-profit trade association that seeks to promote innovation in lubricant technology and set industry standards. Its membership primarily includes makers and suppliers of lubricants, with members in 26 countries situated around the globe.
