Shell reveals revolutionary motor oil

The lubricant wing of Shell recently announced the launch of its most advanced motor oil, which has a base oil made from natural gas.

The motor oil, known as Helix Ultra with PurePlus Technology, is made using a pioneering process that represents a break with the way lubricants have been produced for several decades.

Shell representative Selda Gunsel commented that Shell Helix Ultra performs better than the company’s previous motor lubricants, and the company is confident that it has an unsurpassed ability to keep engines as clean as possible.

What the firm refers to as PurePlus Technology is a ground-breaking gas-to-liquid process that is used to form pure, synthetic base oil that cleans and protects better than previous products. Shell has combined this next generation base oil with its own unique additives to create its premium motor oils.

The range is currently being manufactured in Qatar in a partnership between the Anglo-Dutch organisation and Qatar Petroleum, with the products being distributed globally.

According to the company, PurePlus Technology base oils can start to lubricate engines immediately from a cold start, due to their low viscosity when at temperatures of between -25 and -40 degrees Celsius. This results in reduced engine wear, better cleaning and improved fuel economy.

Shell is not only known for its motor oils, as the company manufactures many other products, including Shell Tonna S3 M 68, an oil used to lubricate machine tool slides, tables and feed mechanisms. The company has research centres in Japan, China, Germany, and the US, and is said to be constantly working on the development of new lubricants.
