Valvoline launches new oil for very-high-mileage engines

Valvoline has added a new product to its range in the form of Valvoline High Mileage 150k. The new passenger car engine oil has been specially developed for engines that have travelled over 150,000 miles and seeks to address many of the unique issues that can arise in older engines.

There has been an overall trend in recent years of using cars for longer, with data from IHS Markit indicating that the average age of a vehicle on the road is now almost 12 years. This may have been further emphasised by the COVID-19 pandemic, with remote working and lockdowns perhaps removing much of the incentive to purchase a new vehicle.

Valvoline High Mileage 150k has therefore been formulated to address many of the issues that arise in older engines after years of service, and it includes additives and conditioners to help reduce oil consumption and leaks, antioxidants to help prevent engine oil breakdown and corrosion and Moly Additive Protection to better protect metal surfaces from wear.

The Vice President and General Manager at Valvoline, Greg Barntsen, said about the new product in a press release:

“Valvoline has led the innovation for higher mileage vehicles for decades, and High Mileage 150k delivers a state-of-the-art solution that addresses a growing need in the market. In nearly every year since 2002, the average vehicle age in the U.S. has increased, and we expect the pandemic and economic uncertainty to continue that trend.”

The new product is currently not listed on the website for Valvoline’s European product range, but this will likely change in the near future.
